Refugee Camps

Kenya

Some countries in Africa have been plagued by years of conflict and civil war. Kenya is bordered by two such countries and as a result, the Republic currently hosts several hundred thousand Sudanese and Somali refugees who are being housed in two large camps - Kakuma in the northern part of Kenya's Rift Valley Province and Dadaab, in the North East.

Refugee Camps

Kakuma and Dadaab are in a remote, semi-arid area in northern Kenya. Temperatures by day are near to 40° and only drop to the low 30s at night. Water and food rations are in short supply and many in the camp are close to starving.
At times there are over 200,000 refugees. This number fluctuates, however, depending on the state of the conflict in Southern Sudan.

Refugee Camps

Living away from home in a camp is not easy, but under the global direction of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), a number of humanitarian organisations are trying to make life better for the occupants. Most of their interventions are well received, but none more so than organised sport. Thanks to your generosity; Alive & Kicking has provided balls to both the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kakuma and Care Kenya in Dadaab.
