Alive and Kicking make cheap, tough, repairable footballs, netballs and volleyballs, using African skills and African leather. Each carries a message about HIV/AIDS and malaria.
The Alive & Kicking ball was developed in Kenya by experts from UK, Kenya and Bata, the international shoe making company. Balls are now also made in Zambia using leather from Zamleather, and in South Africa with leather supplied by Mossops-Western tannery
.
The 2.5 mm thick panel comprises a layering of leather, pvc in Kenya and PU in Zambia and canvas. The leather is pvc or PU coated for waterproofing and canvas backed for shape retention.
