Alive & Kicking ball to journey the world with The Spirit of Football

south_africa_2010.jpgAlive & Kicking has been chosen to provide ‘The Ball' for the Spirit of Football, the carriers of the football equivalent of the Olympic Torch, for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Every four years ‘The Ball' has made an epic journey from Battersea Park, the home of the very first FA-rules football match, to the Opening Ceremony of the World Cup. In 2002 it was kicked from Battersea Park, 7,000 miles to Korea and Japan, and in 2006 it journeyed to Germany. The Ball has been played with local people of towns and villages, as well as kicked by ambassadors and professional football players along its route, carrying with it the spirit of football as it bounces its way to its destination.

In 2010 The Ball will be our very own Alive & Kicking ball, made in South Africa. It will journey 10,000 miles from Battersea, through Europe to Johannesburgh, South Africa, the host of the 2010 World Cup. Along the way it will celebrate football and its impact on people's lives by visiting festivals of football, music and dance. Alive & Kicking will deliver balls donated by supporters of the Spirit of Football to African organisations. You can also become part of the adventure by donating balls for this project. To do so, please visit www.justgiving.com/spiritoffootball. To find out more about how you can support the Spirit of Football please e-mail info@spiritoffootball.com.
