Alive & Kicking and The Great Football Giveaway

zambian_workshop.jpg
In October 2008 Sam Trusty, Rob Kinder and Jamie Whitcroft are heading to Zambia to run a joint project between Alive and Kicking and The Great Football Giveaway charity.

The Great Football Giveaway has a simple message - "No kid should be denied the chance to kick a ball about. It's one of life's most simple pleasures." They have already sent volunteers and thousands of balls to Africa. In 2006 they gave away over 3,000 brand new balls to children across Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2007 they did the same in Angola, a country recovering from almost 30years of civil war. In summer 2008 a team of volunteers will head into remote regions of Uganda, a country with one of the largest numbers of orphans in the world.

The challenge now is to raise funds for 3000 footballs and distribute them all over Zambia. The Great Football Giveaway will buy all of the balls for this project direct from Alive and Kicking in Zambia. All of these balls have HIV/AIDS and malaria awareness messages on them and can be used as practical, fun teaching aids.

Sam, Rob and Jamie are on breaks from (or before starting) work. "We wanted to get out and see a lot of what Zambia has to offer and organize and run a really positive, hands-on project at the same time". Sam and Rob's friend, Chris Roe, is the Manager of Alive and Kicking Zambia and he will be helping the team from Lusaka.

To Donate to this project please visit The Great Football Giveaway's site or donate a ball online now, which will be added to those donated by The Great Football Giveaway.
