How did you start working as a stitcher?
I worked as a stitcher for 7 years. Before that I sold secondhand clothes.
How did you start working at Alive & Kicking?
I heard that Alive & Kicking was starting in Nairobi in August 2004.
How do you find the working conditions?
Not bad.
I see they have music playing in the workshop - what is your favourite music?
Celine Dion, Dolly Parton and Janet Jackson.
How far do you travel to get to work? How do you get to and from the workshop?
I walk to work, which takes me an hour and a quarter. If I have money, I take the bus which takes 20 minutes.
What time do you start work? And finish?
I work from 8am to 4.30pm.
What do you eat for lunch?
Sweet cakes.

How old are you?
I am in my early thirties.
Are you married?
Yes.
Do you have any children?
I have a one year old daughter. I would like my children to go to school, to college, to get a good job and then it is up to them!
How many people do you support on your income?
My wife, my daughter, 2 of my sisters and my parents.

Is it hard to find work in Kenya?
Yes. And it is important to have experience.
Do you originally come from Nairobi? Where do you come from?
I come from the Makweni District, 200km from Nairobi.
How many languages do you speak?
I speak English, Kiswahili and Kikamba, at home.
How long have you lived in Nairobi? Why did you move?
I moved here in 1994 looking fro a job. It is hard to get a job at home except looking after cattle. If you've been to school, you come to Nairobi for a better job.
How do you like the city of Nairobi?
Nairobi is one of the best places! It is the capital city.

What do you do in your spare time/on weekends?
I listen to music. I watch movies.
Do you watch TV? Movies? What do you watch? Where do you watch it?
I don't have a TV but. I like Christian films.
Do you watch international sports? Do you support any international teams? Who is your favourite sports personality?
I watch sports on TV at other people's homes; some people open their homes if they have a TV and charge people to watch TV, like a business.
My favourite team is Manchester Utd - I like their tactics. My favourite player is Rooney.
Who are the most famous Kenyans in your view?
Politicians.
Can you name any famous British people?
Margaret Thatcher. The Royal Family.
What do you imagine the UK is like?
It must be nice because the British colonised us. It must be smart and developed, with a lot of cities.
